Baby3n2

Rachel came into our lives at 3.52 pm on 22 November 1995. She arrived like a whirlwind - in a matter of about 3 hours.  From then on she lived her short life at pretty much the same speed. Everything she did had to be done quickly, there was no sitting around thinking about something.

Looking back I do wonder if she sort of knew she was only hear for a brief time, and therefore had to pack as much in as she could in the time she had.

Sept 1999
Started afternoons at Mersey Drive Nursery School.  Rachel's introduction to what 'big' school would be like.

Sept 2000
Started school at Hollins Grundy Primary School, in Bury.  Rachel always enjoyed school and seemed to make friends quite quickly.  If there was anything going on you could bet Rachel was in the middle of it. In Year 1 she was voted as one of the School Councillors for her year, and enjoyed the weekly 'meetings' the councillors used to have.

26 July 2003
This was the day our lives changed forever!  Rachel had been unwell for about 4 - 6 weeks.  She was admitted to hospital on 25 July 2003,  and was diagnosed the day after with a Grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme Brain Tumour -  a highly malignant and fast growing brain tumour.
We were told pretty much straight away that treatment was intended to prolong her life and hopefully give her some quality of life in the remaining time we had with her.
We were advised that once we could take her home from hospital (which was 6 weeks later) to 'make every day count'.

21 November 2003
Rachel's school teacher very kindly organised a  surprise birthday party in school for her 8th birthday.  At the time she had just completed her first session of chemotherapy and I was unsure as to whether she would be well enough to attend.  She had no problems in attending and I was so proud of her.  Rachel had no idea the party had been planned, and it was the best kept secret ever.  The smile on her face when she walked through the door and her friends sang 'Happy Birthday' to her is a memory I will always treasure.  It was as much a special day for me as it was for Rachel.

30 March 2004
Rachel very sadly fell asleep for the last time on Tuesday evening 30 March 2004, in a children's hospice called Derian House in Chorley, Lancashire. Her mummy, daddy and sister were with her.

We miss her more than words could ever say, and we will carry her in our hearts forever.

Goodnight, God Bless Rachel

Thank you for being our little girl, and choosing us to be your mummy, daddy and sister.
