At Rachel's funeral a silk forget-me-not flower was given to everyone who attended the church service.
This is her Daddy's speech he read out during the service......

'You may all be wondering why you have been offered and asked to wear a forget-me-not flower as you entered church today.  Well I used to call Rachel many things, as those of you with children can imagine, but one of them was 'my little flower'.

Blue and especially lilac were Rachel's favourite colours, and we have thought long and hard about this.  As you can see there is very much a lilac theme here today.  Rachel has also been dressed in her favourite lilac clothes for this her 'special' day.

Perhaps you would like to put your forget-me-not flower in a drawer somewhere, or use it as a bookmark, and one day you may find it, and remember a very brave little girl, who suffered so much, so young, but always  seemed to manage a beautiful smile, which everyone who ever met her always seemed to notice.

Anne, Laura and I will need no flowers to remember Rachel, and all the memories and good times we had.  We feel very privileged to have been blessed to have her as a daughter and sister, although all too briefly.
We would like to thank you for being here and sharing a part of Rachel's 'special day'.

Thank you

When Rachel passed away we made a request for donations to be given in her memory instead of flowers.  We decided that Derian House Children's Hospice should be the beneficiary of those donations.

We were introduced to the hospice only two weeks before Rachel passed away and by this time she was becoming quite poorly. However, on our first visit there we went in the hydropool - which was only a very shallow pool, but was literally as warm as a bath. One of my precious memories is of Rachel getting into the pool and her smile spread into a huge beam as she announced 'This is what I call nice'. Once she realised she was safe she thoroughly enjoyed it, and went into a fit of giggles when the jacuzzi was switched on!

The next time we went again was for a weekend stay, but whilst there she suddenly became too poorly, and we were unable to take her back home.

The money donated, together with various fund raising events held by both our work colleagues brought the total amount to over £3000 for the hospice, which we know will go some way towards helping other families who sadly find themselves in the all too common situation of needing the hospice support.

Rachel's school has planted a memorial garden in the school grounds and some of her friends have planted flowers and shrubs to remember her by.

The school have also introduced the 'Rachel Drury Award for Physical Endeavour' which is given out to the child who has tried their best in that year.
They have also adopted Derian House Children's Hospice as their major fund raising cause this coming year.

All this has come about because of the very sad death of our little girl. However
her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who loved her.
